CivicView’s versatility continues to grow

Australia’s leading Local Government software solution, CivicView, has certainly established itself in the Local Government IT marketplace.

Initially developed inhouse by Kempsey Council as a Geographical Information System, CivicView was produced in 1998 when Council joined forces with Brisbane based IT company, Insight Informatics. CivicView is a fully integrated modular system that meets a range of Local Government needs using a windows environment.

Eight organisations currently use CivicView. They include Bellingen, Cobar, Kempsey, Mid Coast Water, Yarralumla and Young Councils in New South Wales, and more recently Logan City and Caloundra Councils in Queensland. “A proven product for regional centres and rural Councils, CivicView is now in use in metropolitan areas,” said Campbell Petterson, Kempsey Council’s Computer Services Manager.

Logan, Queensland’s third largest Council and eighth largest in Australia, will have CivicView up and running by the end of May. “After a detailed evaluation, CivicView came up very well,” said Peter Way, Logan’s Director City Works. “It gave us the best fit from all those who tendered.” He said that Council was impressed with the user friendliness of the package and that it was specifically tailored for Local Government needs.

The versatility of CivicView has again been illustrated at Caloundra City Council. This rapidly expanding area, located in the South East Queensland growth corridor, clearly tests out the package’s capabilities particularly in dealing with development applications and a raft of environmental matters.

Manager Corporate Services with Caloundra City Council, Mark Skippington, said that since going live with CivicView in July last year the product has met expectations. “The product is continually being developed,” he said. “Through our regular dealings with CivicView, we are able to influence this development. “We look forward to future new applications as they come on board.”

CivicView’s broad applications include financial, customer service, asset management, property and development matters, noxious weeds, animal impounding and human resource management. It now has an email facility built in, and a web interface is being developed.

A working group, comprising IT representatives from the user Councils, is currently preparing the package to handle requirements under the GST.
