The District Council of Streaky Bay in South Australia is very concerned about the quality of the water supply to the township.
Situated on the Great Australian Bight, Streaky Bay is located between Port Lincoln and Ceduna.
There is a water reserve about ten kilometres out of the town, however, the quality of water has deteriorated very rapidly in the last few years.
“SA Water will provide water supply via the town of Poochera, a pipeline past that town comes from Port Lincoln,” said Councillor Greg Schreiber.
A large water tank with a capacity of 11 million gallons is being built close to Streaky Bay to provide quality drinking water to residents.
“Until the replacement water supply is connected, work on a new sub division has been put on hold,” said Greg Schreiber. “However, Council has been able to construct the roads on the subdivision.”
SA Water has 60 kilometres of pipe to lay to connect the water supply to Streaky Bay. The extension of the pipeline to the town is due to be completed by the end of 2001.
The new subdivision will contain 170 housing blocks.
These have been advertised on television since January 2001 with some blocks having been sold already.
