Waste 2001 Conference

Novotel Opal Cove Resort, Coffs Harbour NSW

Approximately 300 delegates will converge on Coffs Harbour on 4-6 April to attend the national waste management conference, Waste 2001. The theme of this year’s event is ‘Towards Resource Management’.

Commenting on the forthcoming conference Mayor Jennifer Bonfield said that Coffs Harbour City Council is delighted to host this major event.

“Waste is a major environmental challenge for us all, both locally and globally,” Councillor Bonfield said.

Waste 2001 is supported by the Australian Local Government Association and the Australian Waste Management Association.

Environment Australia is a major sponsor.

The main objective of Waste 2001 will be to help bring about a paradigm shift from traditional waste management to resource management.

“It is imperative that we take action to curb wasteful practices,” Mayor Bonfield said.

“Burying our natural resources in tips is not the solution for our future.”

Much of the conference program will focus on reducing waste and using waste as a resource for recovery, recycling and reprocessing.

“There is certainly scope to take advantage of new and refined technologies”, Mayor Bonfield said.

“But what we must really change is our attitude and behaviour.

“I encourage all waste managers to join us at the Waste 2001 Conference to benefit from each others experience, and to engage in lively debate!”

Delegates will be able to attend presentations, participate in workshops, visit and discuss issues with sponsors and trade exhibitors, and most importantly network with colleagues.

On the final day of the program, delegates will have the opportunity to attend a Waste Expo at Coffs Harbour’s Englands Road Waste Management Facility.

Coffs Harbour is well known for providing affordable and quality conferences, particularly focusing on issues relating to waste management.

The location offers high quality conference facilities and a wonderful environment.

Expressions of interest are being sought from delegates, sponsors, trade exhibitors, and persons wishing to submit poster displays at the Waste 2001 Conference.
