Brighton’s IT edge

For the second consecutive year, Brighton Council in Tasmania, has released its annual report on CD ROM. Brighton is believed to be the first Council in Tasmania, and possibly Australia, to provide this format.

It was so well received last year that Council chose to maintain the format for its current report.Brighton’s CD ROM is interactive featuring a video clip, photographs, animation, PDF downloads and a verbal report presentation by Mayor Tony Foster.

“Annual reports are often not the most interesting documents to read and can be difficult for ratepayers to fully understand,” Councillor Foster said. “By again releasing our report on CD ROM, we hope we have created a more user friendly and interesting report for our community – a report they want to read.

“It is also another way for us to show our community what it has helped us achieve in the past year and how proud we are of these achievements.”

In another first for Local Government in Tasmania, the report can also be downloaded from Council’s new website located at www.brighton.tas.gov.au.

Projects such as the CD ROM have earned Brighton Council recognition as a leader in Local Government IT in Tasmania.

Council’s software development company, MicroWise, aims to revolutionise Local Government administration procedures throughout Australia. Since its launch 12 months ago, the company which operates independently from the Council, has gone from strength to strength.

Its clients now include six Tasmanian Councils and discussions are currently being held with others throughout Tasmania and Australia.
