Community development through photographs

A project based on a photographic survey approach is being developed by the Department of Local Government in an effort to increase the amount of strategic planning and involvement of the community in the development of community directions.

The project involves developing the concept of using a photographic survey as a focusing vehicle and catalyst for the development of a community plan. The concept has previously been proven effective in the Cabonne area of Central NSW.

The technique is based on community members taking photographs of their likes and dislikes about their community and then developing strategies to address shortcomings and promote community benefits. It is planned that a model will be produced to assist remote Councils to facilitate the process for effective community development.
