Strengthening developer relations

The City of Salisbury has sought innovative ways to strengthen relationships with developers and to ensure best practice in development assessment procedures.Council’s Development Services Team adopted a stronger customer service focus and explored how the sharing of ideas between Council and stakeholders would result in better understanding of the development process ‘on both sides of the fence’.

A key tool in the process has been the Developing Salisbury Newsletter. This is produced by the Development Services Team to keep people in the building and development industry informed on key issues.

Printed in house, Developing Salisbury is currently distributed to 90 companies. It features articles and information on new land releases, proposals, legislative changes, government initiatives and contact details. It also includes land division maps, design layouts, details of engineering requirements, changes to the Building Code of Australia and planning updates relating to issues, such as significant urban trees.

The newsletter highlights the professionalism and efficiency of the City of Salisbury’s Development Services Team. The Team’s expertise is widely recognised in the private sector as being at the leading edge of development trends in terms of cost competitiveness, turnaround time and personalised service.

The team determined that effective communication would improve efficiency, and that the sharing of information would contribute to a positive change culture within Council. For each edition, they identify topics and content, write and edit articles and select special insert packages.

Team members review each edition and carefully monitor feedback to determine if the newsletter’s objectives are being met. It has become an important tool in strengthening the service culture within the City of Salisbury.
