Skills for the Future – A partnership between the City of Casey, Motorola, Department of Education, Employment and Training and Local Schools

The City of Casey brokered an innovative arrangement with industry, state government and schools to build a future for the city where a groundbreaking programme to develop the IT skills of young people and create long-term employment opportunities is being pioneered.

The initiative, known as ICE (Information, Communications and Electronics), is the result of a cooperative partnership between Casey City Council, Motorola, the Victorian Department of Education, Employment and Training and local schools. ICE is designed to increase the number of students with Information Technology and Telecommunications (IT&T) skills and to assist in their career choice and long-term employment prospects.

The benefits of ICE are not only in the excitement they generate among current students but will become obvious in 3-5 years when students who move on to post compulsory education graduate and enter the IT&T industry with solid job prospects.

Equally, vocational education options are also available, providing pathways to vocational and tertiary education.

The City of Casey took a long-term strategic approach and an active role in the education system for the first time.

Casey is providing a future for its young people as well as maintaining business within its community and providing a partnership model for other councils.
