Redlands Coast businesses and industry leaders have come together at a special event in Alexandra Hills to share ideas, network and forward plan for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The event, which also marked the start of Queensland Small Business Month, was hosted by Redland City Council with support from the Redlands Coast Chamber of Commerce.
Mayor Jos Mitchell said helping local businesses get Games ready now would ensure they were well positioned to capitalise on future opportunities.
“We are now well and truly on the runway to the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, making this an important time to work collaboratively and think strategically about how we can make the most of this unique opportunity,” the Mayor said.
“As a Co-Host City, the aim is to ensure the benefits flow through the local economy and into our businesses not just before and during the Games, but also well after 2032.”
Special guest speakers at the event included Dominique Lamb, Director of Community Affairs from the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games Organising Committee, and Dyan Currie AM from Torch Advisory Group.
As well as having the opportunity to hear insights from these industry leaders on emerging opportunities associated with the Games, attendees were invited to share their ideas and priorities to help inform Council’s Redlands Coast 2032 Draft Legacy Roadmap.
“This roadmap is currently being developed by Council with the Redlands Coast 2032 Legacy Working Group and is aimed at amplifying the social, economic, cultural, environmental and other benefits of the Games,” the Mayor said.
“We want to ensure the roadmap is a representation of our city’s collective goals and aspirations, which is exactly why the legacy group has been canvassing insights and ideas from key stakeholders across a broad range of sectors.”
With the event also being held during Queensland Small Business Month, the Mayor thanked the Redlands Coast Chamber of Commerce for its support along with small and family operators for their ongoing contributions to the city and the local economy.
“Collaboration remains key in the lead up to the Games and I thank the Redlands Coast Chamber of Commerce for its support to deliver this event,” the Mayor said.
“Local businesses play an important role in attracting investment into our city, employing local people, and producing the goods and services our growing city needs.
“As a small business friendly Council, we remain committed to making it easier to start, run and grow a business here on Redlands Coast – both now and into the future.”
