New Secretary for LGSA

Brenton ‘Alby’ Taylor has recently taken up the position of Secretary of the Local Government and Shires Associations of New South Wales (LGSA).

After a successful career in the New South Wales Police Service where he rose to the rank of Chief Inspector, Alby Taylor believes his role with the LGSA will definitely provide some new challenges.

“However, the client has not changed,” he said. “The client for the Police Service is the community, just as it is for Local Government.”

During his 15 years with the Police Service, Alby became a qualified Legal Practitioner admitted to the Supreme Court of New South Wales. He also holds a Masters Degree in Public Policy and Administration and postgraduate qualifications in management.

Before changing careers Alby Taylor was stationed at Bankstown, the largest Police Command in Australia, where he was second in command. With his extensive experience in senior operational management and public policy, Alby Taylor is well qualified for his new role but he also believes that coming to the position with an open approach is important.

“No previous attachments to Local Government mean I can bring my own thoughts and initiatives to the job,” he said. “Whether it is the private sector or government, the key is performance and doing more with less. Councils are very attuned to this, so the services I can offer will value add to what they are doing.”

Two weeks into the job, Alby Taylor said that LGSA has an excellent team in place providing advice on a diverse range of policy initiatives.

“It is a very professional team with well established networks with the State Government,” he said.
