Best training at Brisbane Water

Brisbane Water has been recognised for its proactive contribution to the water industry by winning the Queensland Public Sector ‘Best Learning and Development Initiative Award’ at the 2001 Queensland Training Awards last year. A commercial business unit of Brisbane City Council, Brisbane Water is responsible for water and wastewater services for 840,000 residents, commercial and industrial customers.

Brisbane Water won the Award for its One Stop Training Shop initiative for the water industry. It provides total water training solutions to Councils and other related water industries. Forty-two finalists were short listed from some 910 nominations for the awards program.

Queensland’s Employment, Training and Youth Minister, Matt Foley presented the award to Sally Edwards, Training and Development Business Manager.

Sally Edwards said that the team worked hard to achieve the award and is delighted with the outcome, especially considering the Brisbane Water Training Centre had only begun operating the One Stop Training Shop in December.

“The sort of products and training services we provide are complex and varied, ranging from conducting training needs analysis, instructional design and the delivery of technical training aligned to national standards and the business needs of an organisation,” she said. The training initiatives we deliver now meet a training services gap that has existed in the water industry for many years.”

Following extensive market research into the training requirements of the water industry, the concept of the One Stop Training Shop was devised.

The Training Awards are part of a State Government strategy to raise the skills and qualifications of Queenslanders by building a more responsive vocational education and training system, which helps people to reach their full potential.
