National online careers for Local Government *

The National Local Government Career Centre, www.lg.newjobs.com.au, was launched in November 2001 as a result of the success experienced in the NSW market. First established in November of 2000, the NSW specific site listed over 800 jobs for Councils in its first year and has become a valued tool for job seekers and Councils alike.

“We had identified the need for Councils to lower their cost per hire and reach a wider pool of candidates,” said Sue Packham, General Manager, TMP Worldwide. “Through our close relationship with the NSW Local Government and Shires Associations we partnered to create this site dedicated to Local Government in NSW.”

In 2001 through discussions with the relevant associations and groups representing Local Government, it became apparent that there was a real need for this service in other areas across Australia and hence the NLGCC concept was born.

“The National Local Government Career Centre Website has been a very attractive advertising alternative for Penrith City Council,” said Clarissa Endean, Human Resource Officer, Penrith City Council“They have been able to offer us a national service at a very cost effective price.”

With the need for HR departments to constantly look for innovative and cost effective ways to attract candidates, the NLGCC may be worth considering as part of your recruitment process.

“The beauty of the NLGCC is that Councils can not only place their vacancies in a dedicated Local Government environment, but they can also attach the relevant position description and selection criteria if they wish,” said Greg Bechly, Account Manager NLGCC.“This saves their staff valuable administration time, not to mentionresources such as postage.”

All jobs are also automatically listed on monster.com.au opening up a larger talent pool to Council. For more information visit www.lg.newjobs.com.au.
