Online buying for SA

Some 30 South Australian Councils have made the move or expressed commitment to online buying and quoting. The first to go live is the City of Port Adelaide Enfield.Using technology designed by Strategic Ecommerce Limited (SEL) in collaboration with eCouncils.com, Port Adelaide Enfield will adopt the online purchasing solution aptly named, StraightBUY.

This will demonstrate the value of using the system to access a multitude of online catalogues from various suppliers.

“By purchasing online, we will be able to eliminate the manual requisitioning process within Council, resulting in a significant reduction in the time and costs of making Council purchases,” said Port Adelaide Enfield’s Corporate Services Director, Mal Jonas.“This will enable purchasing staff to spend more time focusing on supplier relationships and strategic purchasing decisions.

“The big advantage of the joint Local Government e-procurement initiative was that all Local Government buyers would be able to access the same pool of suppliers online, maximising the benefits for buyers and suppliers alike,” said Mal Jonas.

SEL Chief Executive Officer, Andrew Sendy, said that providing an online catalogue ensures that customers always have instant access to full product range and current prices, saving money and time.

“Another advantage is that it can be used as a single access point for all Local and State Government,” he said.

Port Adelaide Enfield showcased their Local Government e-procurement solution at a fringe event of the recent World Congress on IT 2002, staged in Adelaide in February.
