Adelaide’s business portal

Adelaide City Council has developed a free online business portal to businesses within the Adelaide and North Adelaide areas.Adelaidebiz.com.au is a new initiative by Council to encourage business and the community to make greater use of the Internet.

Research undertaken by Council, including a Yellow Pages Small Business Report, indicated that small business lags behind in regard to doing business on the Internet.

A National Office for Information Economy (NOIE) demonstrated the expected business growth attributed to doing business more effectively electronically.

“Council adopted this initiative to provide a cost effective, easy to use and safe way for business to get on the Internet, to access resources and services that will add value to their business,” said Adelaide City Council’s Adelaidebiz.com.au Project Manager, Carlo Volpato.

Users can promote their business 24 hours seven days a week. The site provides them with online resources, news and information, as well as tools to create a customised page of information to further promote their products and services.Members can communicate with one another via the Adelaidebiz.com.au forum and discussion groups. The search component enables users to make product and service searches within the City.

To complement Adelaidebiz.com.au, Council held the Adelaidebiz.com.au Seminar Series 2001 covering issues including ebusiness; women in ebusiness; and e-export. The 2002 Business Seminar Series will kick-off in April with a Business Adviser from the Centre for Innovation, Business and Manufacturing (CIBM) as guest speaker.

The May seminar will focus on small business marketing in the 21st century, while the June seminar will appeal to small business operators interested in learning more about ebusiness. All speakers will present on topics that further the Adelaidebiz aim of adding value to doing business in the City.

“Further plans for the project include developing a mechanism that takes the traditional networking methods into the 21st century and creating an electronic business network that is relevant and well used by businesses in the City,” Carlo Volpato said.
