Meeting corporate objectives made easy through performance indicators

Councillors and executive managers at Hurstville City Council are now able to identify quickly the organisation’s success in meeting its corporate objectives across a range of activities. This has been facilitated by the provision of regular and timely graphical indicators. These provide up to date information within two working days of the end of the calendar month and are simultaneously placed on the Council’s web site.

“Councillors wanted straightforward and concise information on the performance of Council across a wide range of activities,” said Council’s Divisional Manager Business and Financial Services, David Rosenbaum.

They were also seeking a better level of understanding of Council finances and, more specifically, the direction of those finances as well as the levels of discretionary spending capabilities which were never clearly identified in any of the reporting mechanisms in existence prior to the implementation of this system.

The process has been developed using extensive macro programming and eliminates duplication of data entry by directly accessing and downloading information from existing Council systems.

“The provision of such information, within the context of the balanced score card has ensured that management effort is outcomes based, and this continues to drive Council’s program budget perspective,” said David Rosenbaum.
