Originally developed as an asset management system to maintain Caloundra City Council’s plant assets, it is now being used to manage water and sewerage treatment assets, as well as Council’s fleet.
The system first became operational in March 1997. Council had found that the task of recording maintenance of its plant assets was proving to be beyond the scope of its former system using MS Excel. The challenge for Council was to find an asset management system that would be customised specific to Council needs and cost effective.
What Council developed was a fully functional asset management system incorporating asset management functions tailored to Council’s requirements.
“The most innovative aspects of the system are its ease of use, data interrogation, data export ability, automation features and flexibility to meet ongoing changes in user needs,” said Council’s Plant Manager, Roland Verrinder.“The system requires only one user to have full MS Acces97 and allows all remaining users to run on royalty – free run time licenses which constitutes a considerable saving over market asset management systems where concurrent user licences apply.
“It allows for installation on workstations and mobile laptop computers which can synchronise changes when reconnected to the network.”
