Accommodation facility for seasonal workers and tourists

South Australia’s Southern Mallee District Council has established an accommodation facility to cater for seasonal workers and visiting groups to the area. Located within the town of Parilla, it contains six individual rooms that can accommodate two people per room. Each room has a wardrobe and air conditioning.

The grounds are maintained by community volunteers and bookings managed by the Parilla Community and Sportsgrounds Committee. The facility provides clean, affordable, suitable accommodation for seasonal workers and others.

Following concerns about an increase in land uses due to the diversification of industries within rural areas, Council identified a need for alternative accommodation within the district. It will provide economic incentive to existing and establishing rural industries. The involvement of local services and tradespeople has also provided local employment opportunities and increased community support and participation.

It is an accommodation facility that assists, promotes and secures rural growth while generating economic benefits.
