Located in western Victoria, the Northern Grampians Shire covers almost 6,000 square kilometres and services a population of over 13,000 people. More than 630 businesses currently operate throughout the Shire. Prominent industry sectors include tourism, mining, textiles, manufacturing and rural industries.
Stawell and St Arnaud, the Shire’s commercial centres, were shaped by the prosperity of early gold rushes and are sustained by agriculture and industry. As one of Victoria’s key agricultural districts, the Shire’s total annual production exceeds $96 million.
Council is committed to developing opportunities for future growth and nurturing the passion and commitment vital for future prosperity. The Shire’s Economic and Tourism Development Unit is a team of professional specialists working together to identify, develop and attract business initiatives within the area.
A recent announcement from the Bracks Government to provide a $5.7 million expansion to Stawell’s textile company, Aunde Australia, has lifted community spirit, pride, optimism and self belief. The boost will create 295 jobs in the area.
