Geraldton is known as Sun City, the regional centre for the mid west, and the gateway to the Batavia coast. Now the port city has added another title to its list, being recently named Western Australia’s Tidiest Town with a population greater than 6,500.
One of 100 communities to participate in the annual competition, the Geraldton community is thrilled with the award win.
Geraldton Tidy Town Committee Chair, Councillor Gary Hill, said the Committee now has its sights set on the top award for Western Australia’s Tidiest Town. He said that the award recognised the efforts of people who worked to keep the city looking good. The community’s support and enthusiasm was crucial in achieving this statewide recognition.
City Waste Management Officer, Alan Hughes, said the award is for more than collecting litter. It recognises ongoing work to maintain heritage sites, and keeping community facilities like the Aquarena or Batavia Marina at a high standard. He said the City would continue to maintain work that beautifies the area, and look at new ways to improve the city in the future.
