New site aids

As the Commonwealth embraces ‘E-government’ strategies and implementation, understanding the role of digital communications and the integration of new technologies has become a necessity for all Government organisations wanting to improve service delivery and stakeholder communication. One of the major challenges faced by Government is to ensure all internal and external communications are delivered in a timely and synchronised manner and that communication channels are open.

The South Sydney Development Corporation’s approach to incorporating a long term digital communications strategy into their organisation has proved a success, with the recent launch of www.greensquare.com.au The new web site developed by MassMedia Studios, marks the third phase of a major online overhaul for the Corporation that facilitates communication between stakeholders in Green Square, an area of land between the Central Business District of Sydney and the airport. This area is currently undergoing a major program of urban renewal.

The web site is dynamically database driven using MassManageTM, MassMedia Studios’ proprietary content management system, empowering South Sydney Development Corporation to control vast amounts of content and giving it total autonomy for adding future sections to the site.

Web sites and content management are just two elements of an overarching digital communications system that assists Government and improves communications with internal and external stakeholders. Other elements include intranet, extranet, document management and the delivery of electronic payment services.

When developing a digital communications strategy it is important to engage people who specialise in deploying comprehensive applications and technologies across multiple channels. But regardless of the technology, the focus should be on enhancing the overall communication experience for both Government and the community.
