Parramatta’s campaign to

The business community of Parramatta in western Sydney has launched a two year marketing campaign to attract more private investment in the City. The Marketing the City project, worth more than half a million dollars, delivers a range of strategies to promote Parramatta.

Chairman of the Parramatta Economic Development Board, Lord Mayor Paul Garrard, said the City had untapped resources.

“These community assets are our people, our community, infrastructure, location, lifestyle and accessibility,” he said. “Western Sydney is changing and Parramatta is the undisputed leader of the region. Through this campaign, we’re aiming to open a floodgate for investment and growth.”

Marketing the City has included a Sydney CBD launch for the investment and development community; selective advertising to business, investors and developers; a targeted program of business and investment attraction; the appointment of a senior business relationships manager; progressive introduction of the brand into City events and visitor guides; and a planned media program to highlight business success stories.

The Lord Mayor said the Marketing the City project supported State Government and Council planning initiatives to encourage more jobs, investment and sustainability.

“The City has been well supported under the State Government’s relocation program, which has brought the NSW Police and Sydney Water headquarters, the Parramatta Transport Interchange, a major biotechnology research centre and new law courts to our City,” he said “Now the emphasis is on attracting private investment.”

Marketing the City is funded from a Special Rates Levy on Parramatta CBD businesses. The strategy was developed by national business analysts, Buchan Consulting, who were chosen from a field of 23 consultants. It evolved from extensive research on perceptions of the City and strategies for attracting new business to Parramatta.
