Shark Lake Industrial Park

The Shire of Esperance, located 720 kilometres south east of Perth, predominantly has agricultural industries underpinning the economy. In addition to agricultural produce, the Port of Esperance also handles bulk materials from the Goldfields, fuel and fertiliser.

The proposed Shark Lake Industrial Park is a joint project between the Shire of Esperance and the Esperance Port Authority. This 378 hectare property is ideally located on the Coolgardie–Esperance Highway, at the junction of key feeder roads from the east and west. It is only 12 kilometres from Esperance, and has the Goldfields railway and gas pipeline running adjacent to it.

The aim of the project is to establish an industrial park for Esperance that will cater for the needs of the region in the future, and provide an avenue for broadening the skills base through diversification of industry.

Over the past few years, the Shire of Esperance has worked on identifying land suitable for the development of an industrial park away from the town centre.

“The establishment of the Shark Lake Industrial Park will bring with it opportunities to expand and diversify the Esperance region economy, provide the Port with an alternative site for the bulk storage of products, and improve traffic through the town of Esperance,” said Councillor Ian Mickel, President of the Shire of Esperance. “With the assistance of the Federal Government through its Local Government Incentive Plan grant and also a grant from the Goldfields Esperance Development Fund, we have been able to undertake comprehensive environmental assessment of the site, as well as make sure we keep the public well informed of progress in the project.

“We have now initiated a Scheme Amendment to effect the re-zoning and look forward to a favourable decision by the WA Planning Commission and Environmental Protection Authority on what will be a strategic project for the future economic wellbeing of the Esperance region,” Councillor Mickel said.
