Healthy future for male staff

Rockhampton City Council has recently introduced a Men’s Health Program to help lead Council’s male staff towards a healthier future. Implemented by Rockhampton District Community Health Services, and part of a State Government initiative, the program was developed to educate and empower men to take an active role in their health.

Councillor Greg Belz said that the initiative was a positive step towards Council’s commitment to the health and welfare of its employees.

Research has shown that men are less vigilant about their health than women.

“The continuing support and promotion of men’s health will enable the men and their families make healthier choices in their lives,” Councillor Belz said.

The program includes a mobile health van, which visits Council work sites starting with Works Services, and offers education, information and assessments on male health issues.

Services include checks for blood sugar, cholesterol and blood pressure levels, and education on hearing, diet and nutrition.

Rockhampton City Council has more than 600 full and part time male staff.
