Home care at its best in Manningham

General Home Support, Personal Care and Respite workers at Manningham City Council have recently been awarded Certificate 3 in Community Services (Aged Care Work) course. Each year, Council’s Aged and Disability Support Services unit has staff trained to ensure service to the community is of the highest quality.

In 2003, 17 Council staff members successfully completed the nationally recognised training course. Box Hill Institute provides the training, working closely with Manningham City Council. Working together they have established an innovative learning environment to ensure all Council staff can serve the community to the best of their ability.

Course modules include learning to communicate appropriately with clients and colleagues, and how to work effectively with culturally diverse clients and co-workers.

Aged and Disability Support Services Coordinator, Keri Kennealy, said that Manningham Council is a recognised industry leader as it aims at having 100 per cent of all Home Support workers completing Certificate 3.

“The more highly trained our staff are, they are more appropriately able to respond to clients needs,” she said.

The training program for staff has been available at Manningham Council since 1999 and in that time more than 120 staff have completed the course.

For further information contact Keri Kennealy on (03) 9840 9333.
