Whitehorse selects AXS-One payroll and human resource management

Whitehorse City Council, serving a population of 145,000 residents, is retiring its old legacy based system for payroll and HR. Council’s Information Systems Manager, Jeff Carson, said the problem with running the previous system was that the hardware and software were very aged. It remained static, which meant it did not evolve with the changing administrative needs of the business.

“Using that system for ten years, Council encountered increasing configuration problems around changing award policies and enterprise bargaining agreements,” Jeff Carson said. “This presented risk and many missed business opportunities.”

The decision was made to replace the existing system with a solution with more sophisticated reporting capabilities, self-service options for staff, and one that was operationally superior in terms of flexible processes.

“With the new AXS-One product we’ll be able to support the business direction,” Jeff Carson said. AXS-One Payroll automates the payroll needs of organisations, including payments, deductions costing, entitlements and pay rates and periods. It can be integrated with AXS-One HR Self-Service so users can access their payslips, update personal details, and apply for leave online.

Council will go live with the software in mid 2004 to process the pay for its 1,000 employees.

One of the standout features of the product is the ease of access to information, with the ability to create user-defined inquiries and reports quickly and simply.

“AXS-One HR & Payroll is function-rich,” Jeff Carson said. “It allows you to do a simple query and bring up the information you need. And if you want to group a field of data you can create a pivot table of that information and massage the data into view. This is easy to do and for our pay staff it is a powerful feature.”

Whitehorse City Council has been a user of AXS-One’s financial and e-procurement solutions for the past five years. With this recent selection it joins Glen Eira City Council who went live with this HR and Payroll solution in July 2003.
