First waterproof portable land mobile radio

In a tough environment, you need a radio that is even tougher. Icom (Australia) Pty Ltd has now made that radio. The decision to create a high performance, fully submersible radio for the land mobile market came from observing how portable radios are actually used in the field.

This is a breakthrough for anyone whose communication needs place them indoors and outdoors, including first responders for whom tough environments may limit communications in do or die situations. It brings waterproof durability to tough work environments meeting the diverse needs of people working in the government, utilities, transport and industry sectors.

Icom’s recently launched F50/F60 series, is the first waterproof submersible portable radio for the land mobile radio industry. Its waterproof rating means the radio remains fully operational after having been submersed in one meter of water for 30 minutes. This also means if the F50 gets dirty, it can be cleaned by running it under a tap or submersing it in water – all with no ill effect.

The new IC-F50/F60 Series is more than just tough, it is convenient. In addition to being fully submersible, this radio features an enhanced body that is small enough to fit in a shirt pocket.

It is extra durable and shockproof. Weighing only 280gms, much less than most professional radios on the market, it also includes a 1700mAh Low maintenance Li-Ion battery for up to ten hours operation between charging. Because of the tight construction needed for waterproof durability, this radio is highly corrosion resistant and dust proof, making it ideal for a variety of harsh environments, not just those involving water.

A complete range of built in signaling capabilities is included, as well as a voice scrambler option. Icom products are supported by a two year warranty and a nationwide network of authorised distributors.
