Business opportunities on the Murray

Potential and existing businesses in Moira Shire are looking forward to a new future with the help of a marketing and business support information pack. Moira Shire – a new future on the Murray highlights the advantages and niche business opportunities available in the Shire. Business and lifestyle, new possibilities and a commitment to growth feature prominently under the themes of advantage, opportunity and attitude.

Details such as population, market access, transport networks, existing industry mix, new industry opportunities, infrastructure, labour force and lifestyle are included for each of the four main towns in the Shire.

The information pack creates a strong impression that clearly says Moira Shire is committed to supporting business opportunities, particularly in areas such as agribusiness, manufacturing, retail and services and tourism where there are niche market opportunities that can be filled to benefit all businesses in the Shire.

It is hoped the pack will help attract new businesses to the area and promote opportunities for existing businesses looking at expanding. The kits are being distributed through tourist information centres, motels and on request at Council offices. The idea is to target people who are visiting the area for a holiday and have a business idea or might decide they like the lifestyle and want to settle in Moira permanently.

There is also useful information for existing businesses wanting to expand or gain a competitive edge. The pack has been developed by the business development unit and is part of a broader approach to support businesses and economic development throughout the Shire.

Council is supporting this approach with business development programs including:

  • detailed information and feasibility studies on major regional business opportunities
  • facilitating and fast tracking of major investment projects
  • advice and support to businesses setting up in the region
  • investing in industrial estates and other business infrastructure
  • providing other business support and incentives on a case by case basis.
