Mobile Fun Box for Mount Marshall youth

With an area of 10,500 square kilometres and only 650 residents, providing entertainment for young people is a difficult challenge for Western Australia’s Mount Marshall Shire Council. Last year the Shire’s Junior Council identified a need for additional recreational opportunities, particularly as the swimming pool was closed for six months of the year.

Community Development Officer, Rebecca Watson, said that Council investigated the options and a mobile skate ramp was seen as the best solution as it could be moved between the two main townships that are 40 kilometres apart.

Part funded through a grant from Lotteries West and Council, delivery of Skateramps Australia’s Mobile Fun Box is expected this month. It is ideal for councils that have wide spread population centres such as Mount Marshall or a number of small towns that each could not afford a permanent ramp.

The Mobile Fun Box has the usual attributes of a typical skate ramp, providing various obstacles to test and challenge skaters. However, what is unique is its portability, enabling it to be moved from one location to another. When folded up, the all steel constructed Mobile Fun Box also acts as a storage space for those loose components of a skate venue, such as humps, grind bars and spines.

As a shared facility it can be rostered around several locations and is also perfect for fairs, festivals and other community events.

This product encompasses safety design features and is fixed to the ground by hydraulics. It is light enough for standard vehicle towing and can easily be set up by one person. The Fun Box includes purpose designed integral trailer chassis and is fully compliant with all road regulations.
