Moira Shire has a significant tourism industry built around the natural assets of the Murray River and excellent sport and recreation facilities. Stretching from Yarrawonga in the east to Barmah in the west, attractions include wineries, historic homesteads, galleries, craft shops, licensed clubs, water sports, fishing, beaches, forests, lakes, rivers and wetlands.
A wide range of sporting clubs and golf clubs have been established in the region and offer some of the best facilities in Australia for bowls, tennis and golf.
Cobram: Tourism in Cobram centres on the golf and country club facilities at Barooga and the water based activities and camping that the Murray River offers. Cobram is home to Thompson’s Beach which is one of the largest inland river beaches in Australia and has excellent barbecue and recreational facilities.
Nathalia: Nathalia is the gateway to the Barmah State Forest and Ramsar Wetland. Winter floods create a wetland biosphere which is home to 206 species of bird. The area is the largest red gum forest in the world and is popular for bird watching, hiking and camping. Walking tracks also exist along Broken Creek.
Numurkah: The Lakeside Country Club provides quality accommodation and golf and Kinnairds Wetland which is a new attraction set up for bird watching, walking and cycling.
Yarrawonga: Tourism activities centre on Lake Mulwala and the registered clubs in Mulwala. Water activities include water skiing, sailing, fishing and river cruising. There is a major 45 hole golf club at Yarrawonga/Mulwala.
