The City of Whittlesea is located on the metropolitan fringe 20 kilometres to the north of the Melbourne Central Business District. Covering an area of 487 square kilometres, geographically, this City is one of the largest municipalities in metropolitan Melbourne.
Its residents come from a diverse range of cultural backgrounds, with a very high percentage born overseas. Over half of the residents are from Non English Speaking Backgrounds making it the third most diverse City in Victoria.
The City of Whittlesea’s population has grown at a rapid rate during the past 30 years, more than quadrupling from 27,000 in 1969 to over 127,000 residents at present. In the next three to five years, the City is forecast to become Victoria’s fastest growing Council. By 2021, more than 200,000 people are expected to be living there.
The City comprises a mix of established suburbs, new growth corridors and extensive rural areas as well as a major employment precincts, with universities and other educational centres.
