Maroochy Plan now accessible online

The Maroochy Plan 2000 has been in place since June 2000 and last year was included in Council’s web site. Town Planner, Phillip Roth, said that the web presence represents a fundamental shift for planning in Queensland with the introduction of the Integrated Planning Act (IPA), requiring all Local Governments to prepare an IPA compliant planning scheme.

“Maroochy Plan 2000 was the first IPA compliant scheme to be endorsed by a major Local Government in Queensland,” he said. “To increase opportunities for people to access Maroochy Plan 2000, we focused on improving the user friendliness of its electronic versions.

“With Maroochy Shire Council’s web site being an increasingly important avenue for community enquiry and information, the publishing of Maroochy Plan 2000 is essential to Council’s information technology.”

It is now available at www.maroochy.qld.gov.au/site/

Council also offers a subscription service for people or organisations that would like to be automatically advised when any amendment is made to the Maroochy Plan.

Phillip Roth said this means Council is constantly in touch with all the players who may be interested in the development of the plan.

“It has boosted our ability to communicate with the broader community during the extensive consultation process,” he said. “As a planning scheme, Maroochy Plan 2000 provides the statutory framework for managing the impacts of development within the Shire. We are now providing this information to the wider community in an accessible format.”

Phillip Roth said previously the format of the planning scheme has been limited to hard copy or CD based versions that are available for purchase or perusal at Council libraries and customer service centres.
