Addressing skills shortage LG national conference

LG national conference

23–25 November, Sydney

With skill shortages a problem for all Councils, the 2005 Local Government National Human Resources Conference is a great opportunity to network, professionally upskill and keep abreast with trends. The conference will be held from 23–25 November at Stamford Plaza, Double Bay, Sydney.

The theme, ‘Building a Sustainable Workforce’ will attract CEOs, General Managers, directors, managers, human resource managers, safety officers, training staff and consultants, who are interested in exploring performance and workforce planning issues.

Keynote, Dr Jac Fitz-enz, founder of the famed Saratoga Institute in California, will present a paper titled, Maintaining the Workforce through Risk Innovation. In a highly interactive and dynamic session, Dr Fitz-enz will demonstrate how to think beyond the numbers, the science of selection and consequences of mishiring. He will encourage thinking about retention and performance, and address the seven rules of innovation in human resource practices.

Other keynote speakers include the following:

  • Federal Minister for Employment and Industrial Relations, Kevin Andrews, on IR reform and the effect on Local Government
  • Dr Keith Suter on changes in Australian society and the challenges for workforce planning in Local Government
  • Chairperson of the National Inquiry into Employment and Education of Planners, Sue Holliday, on Local Government workplaces: skills, culture and generation Y.

There will also be a session on ‘Workforce planning from a learning perspective’ and a panel session of HR practitioners with Minister Kevin Andrews.

MasterClass workshops will cover an IR, OH&S, training, performance, culture and innovation stream.
