The Local Government Association of Tasmania (LGAT) is providing bursaries for study at the University of Tasmania to Local Government employees in Tasmania and their dependants. Three bursaries are offered each year to the value of $1,500 per year, for two years.
Currently, a LGAT ASSIST bursary is helping Paul Jackson study commerce/law at the University of Tasmania’s Sandy Bay campus. Through work experience with Hobart City Council, Paul has gained knowledge in legal and policy functions in Local Government.
Council offered Paul work as a temporary employee in November 2004. He has provided support to Council’s Legal Support Unit by reviewing claims, helping to develop Council’s risk management strategy and general legal correspondence.
Paul’s work was of such a good standard that he was invited back in June and July this year. During this time, Paul helped develop Council’s response to the Local Government Amendment Act and the new Local Government Regulations. He also assisted in reviewing Council’s delegations and policy manual.
