The Victorian Local Governance Association (VLGA) will soon commence training of Local Government Mayors in the Philippines.
Governor Loreto Leo Ocampos from Misamis Occidental Province in the Philippines said the VLGA was extremely well placed to deliver training services to the Philippines. He signed an agreement at the VLGA offices in Carlton on 2 February.
“This is vital training for the community and we are pleased to sign an agreement to begin moves to have the training,” he said. Every year, the VLGA trains newly elected Mayors from across Victoria in areas such as governance in Local Government. The Governor recently spoke at this year’s event and was impressed with the three day training program.
Chief Executive Officer, Andrew Rowe, said this training had gone on for many years and VLGA was now highly regarded in this field.
“We have developed and refined the program over many years,” he said. “This is a great honour for the VLGA and we will be exploring options for further training opportunities as they arise across Australia and throughout the world.”
Andrew Rowe believes the new partnership will open greater horizons for the Association. “Good governance is something that we take for granted but it is of vital importance in building strong local communities,” he said.
