Local Government Corporate Planners using hi tech to shape the future

Victoria’s LGPro Special Interest Groups offer an excellent opportunity to bring together Local Government professionals working in specific interest areas for peer support and professional development. LGPro’s 17 special interest groups also provide a vital source of expert advice to ensure LGPro delivers high quality representation and advocacy on behalf of members on all professional matters.

The most recent group to become a Special Interest Group is the Victorian Corporate Planners Network, who joined LGPro in early 2005. With changes to the Local Government Act, the completion of first round Best Value and the need for sound long term corporate planning, it became clear to the group that it was an opportune time to work as part of LGPro enabling them to act as a ‘think tank’ for the sector.

One of the first initiatives of the LGPro Corporate Planners Special Interest Group has been the development of a forum for corporate planners, best value and performance measurement practitioners. This will be held on Friday 31 March 2006 at the Whitehorse Centre in Nunawading.

Proudly sponsored by CA Technologies and supported by the City of Melbourne, the Shaping our Future, Measuring our Progress forum will provide a valuable and exciting opportunity to learn and assist in developing best practice guidelines and models for corporate planning. The forum will also provide an opportunity to encounter Zing Technology at work, a creative interactive tool to assist in the process of collecting ideas and giving instant feedback. All attendees will leave the forum with a valuable set of tools and the know how to assist them with introducing current best practice solutions to their organisation. Most importantly, it is an opportunity to learn from the experiences of others in the industry and to help determine and shape the future of corporate planning in Victoria. George Brouwer, Victorian Ombudsman, will present a keynote address on how a transparent and accountable organisation delivers Best Value.
