Sarina sugar shed: miniature mill, massive experience

Visitors to Sarina Shire will be able to experience a year round educational and tasting experience at the Sarina Sugar Shed, a mini sugar mill and distillery, that will open its doors in April. Ideally located at the southern entrance of Sarina, the Sugar Shed is in the same complex as the Sarina Museum and Sarina Tourist Arts and Crafts Centre (Visitor Information Centre), making it the first port of call for travelers to the Shire. The building has been conceived in such a way to attract visitors’ attention as soon as they reach the town of Sarina.

Featuring a mini operational sugar mill and distillery, visitors have the unique experience of viewing the sugar milling process, production of boutique sugars and candies, and other sugar based products such as fairy floss.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to see the processing of the sugar by product molasses and the distillation process for the production of rum and other alcoholic beverages. They can taste and purchase products produced by the sugar mill and distillery, including sugar cane juice and alcoholic beverages.

The Sarina Sugar Shed will be a top quality tourist destination, attracting school tours, backpackers, regional community and self drive tourists.

Sarina Sugar Shed was developed by funding provided through the Federal Government Regional Solutions Program.
