City of Salisbury shaping the future

City of Salisbury’s City Manager, Stephen Hains, said development figures recently released by the City reconfirm that Salisbury’s level of investment is leading South Australia. Located just 20 minutes north of the Adelaide by car, Salisbury is renowned for its beautiful parks and reserves, environmental innovation and economic development.

Council introduced the ‘Salisbury – Shaping the Future’ marketing strategy in 2005 to attract new businesses to the area. The project was developed with assistance from the Department of Trade and Economic Development, the Land Management Corporation and leading enterprises that have established major operations in Salisbury. The prospectus features important information about Salisbury’s strategic location, competitive advantages, business facts and its long term benefits for success. It also includes testimonials from business leaders, government representatives and the community.

The promotion has been presented in print form and online and is accompanied by a sophisticated DVD presentation. More than a thousand copies of the marketing package have been printed and distributed to overseas investment offices and diplomatic posts.

“This City has received many expressions of interest to relocate to Salisbury and the package has been acknowledged by new investors as a useful presentation in helping make major investment decisions,” Stephen Hains said. “There has been a noticeable increase in development figures, particularly over the last 18 months. While the package itself is not closing deals for us, it is drawing attention to the region and putting Salisbury on the radar.”

The strategy was developed by Council’s Manager Marketing and Customer Service, Richard Watson. He said the response from both business and government agencies involved in investment attraction had been very positive.

“Leading Commonwealth investment attraction agency, Invest Australia, describes Shaping the Future as one of the best regional initiatives that it has reviewed,” he said.

The strategy was recently recognised as the best promotional package in Local Government at the 2006 Economic Development Association of Victoria’s National Awards.

The publication has been included in South Australian Premier, Mike Rann’s, promotional kit bag for when he travels overseas, and is used as a tool by members of the Economic Development Board as an example of South Australia’s economic strength.
