Situated 900 kilometres by road west of Townsville and about 1,900 kilometres north west of Brisbane, Mount Isa is well equipped to satisfy residential, business and industrial needs.The western gateway to Queensland, Camooweal, is located 186 kilometres west on the national highway system. Mount Isa City covers an area of over 43,430 square kilometres, making it geographically the second largest city in Australia to Kalgoorlie-Boulder in Western Australia.

Mount Isa’s current Local Government area covers 43,430 square kilometres and is home to a population of approximately 23,500 people. Council is responsible for maintaining 202 kilometres of sealed and 362 kilometres graded roads. On average, Mount Isa experiences approximately 9.5 hours of sunshine every day and only 50 wet days per year.
