Located just 12 kilometres north of Perth’s Central Business District, the Regional Centre of Mirrabooka is set to spring to life with a major multi-million dollar redevelopment.
The City of Stirling is pioneering and heading this large-scale redesign, capitalisation and investment project, involving partnerships with Federal and State Government, the private sector, and underpinned by strong community support. The City is ambitious in its planning, being the first main street makeover of a box shopping centre of this type implemented in Australia.
The Mirrabooka of the future is being redesigned and rejuvenated with the creation of new residential and commercial lots, the development of a ‘lifestyle street’ and intimate town square.
One of the opportunities and strengths is the multiculturalism of the area. In recent years, there has been an influx of migrants to the region, with 32 per cent of its population being born overseas, and 60 per cent of these coming from a non-English speaking country. The City has successfully gained Federal and State Government funding for two significant community development programs. The Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CaLD) Youth Sport, Recreation and Leisure Project and Reel Connections.
Both projects will build community capacity, whilst engaging and connecting people of the area to their community.
The City of Stirling is in the final stages of a residential subdivision in the Town Centre, (Northwood Grove), which is seen as the first step in bringing greater vitality to the area, as well as funding proposed future works for the Town Centre.
The delivery of this comprehensive bold regeneration plan for the Mirrabooka Regional Centre has commenced and the City of Stirling will work hard together with key stakeholders and the community to transform the region into a thriving, sustainable and vital hub.
