With a thriving population fast approaching 185,000 and a total land area of nearly 100 square kilometres, the City of Stirling is one of Western Australia’s major local government authorities.

The City of Stirling is made up of seven wards and is WA’s largest local government based on population, revenue and expenditure with an overall budget of $186.5 million for 2007/08 that includes:
- $39.3 million on community, recreation and library services.
- More than $24 million on new roads, paths and drains and maintaining the City’s existing infrastructure.
- $10 million for Balga’s new ‘Leisurepark’ due for Summer 2007 completion.
- $2.4 million for Mirrabooka Regional Centre revitalisation project contract works.
- $6.7 million for parks and reserves.
- $4 million for construction and maintenance of City buildings.
- $3.9 million contribution to the future fund.
- $7 million on other capital expenditure.
The City of Stirling is located 8.5 kilometres north of Perth’s CBD, and is accessible via the northern suburban rail service, an efficient bus network and major arterial roads connecting to the Mitchell Freeway.
Home to a multicultural community, the City of Stirling develops community initiatives to embrace these different cultures. Young families are provided for with a number of child health and day care centres, 72 schools and colleges, a university campus and six libraries. Additionally, the City of Stirling boasts eight senior citizens and community centres, and maintains a strong focus on community development hosting a wide range of events throughout the year.
