A joint signboard initiative by Launceston City Council and Cityprom is helping to reduce signage clutter in the City.
Formed in 1988 as an agreement between Council and a group of retailers, Cityprom Limited encourages the promotion and development of the Launceston CBD.
As Australia’s third oldest city, Launceston has a rich history with many fabulously restored heritage buildings. The signboards complement this unique, heritage and enable arcade and mall traders to
promote their individual businesses, while providing better access for all shoppers in the City.
Local wrought iron artist Guy Best handcrafted the ornate signs, inspired by existing heritage wrought iron work in the City. Each signboard features a directional sign and seven business signs.
Cityprom President, Brett McDonald, has congratulated Council for working closely with Cityprom to find an advertising solution for individual traders that don’t have a street frontage.
“Mall and arcade traders can now promote their individual businesses without creating signage clutter and access issues,” he said.
Launceston Deputy Mayor, Alderman Jodie Campbell, said the locally crafted signs, which are inspired by the City’s rich heritage, are a great asset, enabling safer and easier access for shoppers.
“Council will continue to work with Cityprom and others to improve access to the City, while retaining the vibrancy of the central city and the business interests of traders,” she said.
