ARA seminar to focus on sustainability*

The 2008 Australasian Reporting Awards ‘Seminar on Reporting’ will focus on addressing stakeholder’s expectations on sustainability issues, including environmental considerations, governance, and occupational
health and safety.

Some sessions will focus on key policy issues and current trends in reporting. Other sessions will provide practical advice that will help participants to produce a truly effective annual report.

A highlight of the day will be the keynote session, ‘Stakeholder Expectations Concerning Greenhouse Issues’, presented by John Taberner, a partner with Freehills. John has extensive experience in all aspects of environmental law, including planning and pollution control law and greenhouse law. He has acted for a number of significant government, semi government and private clients in environmental law matters.

The seminar will also discuss online reporting. The Federal Government recently introduced legislation that allows organisations to report online and only provide hard copies of their report on request. A new ARA Special Award for Electronic (Online) Reporting was introduced for the 2008 awards.

The results of the 2008 awards will be announced at the annual ARA Awards Presentation Dinner on Thursday 5 June at the Hilton Sydney.

The Seminar on Reporting will be held on Friday 6 June.

Organisations that entered the awards can arrange in advance to receive constructive feedback on their annual report from an ARA adjudicator. This is a unique aspect of the ARA awards.
