The 2008 Australian Local Government Women’s Association State Conference, to be held in Melbourne on Thursday 17 April, will celebrate the 45th Anniversary of ALGWA’s activities in Victoria.
The 45th Anniversary Conference will include the Annual General Meeting and a Gala Conference Dinner. The venues will be Rydges on Bell, 205 Bell Street, Preston for the conference, and the dinner will be held at the Darebin Arts and Entertainment Centre on the corner of Bell Street and St George’s Road in Preston. Both the conference and dinner are supported by Darebin City Council.
Special guests will be the Victorian Minister for Local Government, Richard Wynne; Dr Rhonda Cumberland, Director of Women’s Policy;
John Ravlic CEO LGMA; Marilyn Kearney, Director Corporate Services and Finance at the City of Monash; and the National President of ALGWA, Mrs Kaele Way.
The conference dinner guest speaker will be Jeanette Powell MP, (ALGWA member) Victorian Shadow Minister for Local Government and Aboriginal Affairs.
The theme of the conference is ‘Taking Up the Challenge’, which will highlight the Local Government elections and the opportunity for women to participate and celebrate the 100th anniversary of women gaining the right to vote in Victoria.
