Surviving the communication jungle

The 2008 National Local Government Public Relations and Communication Conference will be held in Sydney’s CBD from Wednesday 7 May to Friday 9 May 2008. The conference addresses issues vital to those people in Local Government whose responsibility is to communicate with their residents, the media and others in their organisation.

The aim of the 2008 Local Government Public Relations Association (LGPRA) Conference is to provide each delegate with an opportunity to learn from experts and their peers; a useful resource kit to take away; and a close network of associates for the exchange information and ideas.

The agenda is an exciting mix of informative presentations from communication experts, case studies from remote, rural and metropolitan councils, panel discussions, and a new concept – ‘speed solutions’!

Guy Leech, World Champion Iron Man, TV commentator, and Ambassador for the Heart Research Institute, will open the conference with inspirational stories from his exciting and diverse life. Dr Keith Suter from The Wesley Mission, Radio 2GB and ‘Sunrise’ (Channel 9) is the Thursday keynote presenter, speaking on building community. Ross Monaghan from Deakin University, the Friday keynote speaker, will dispel the fears and misinformation surrounding new media’s role in communications.

There are award winning case studies from Coonamble, Goulburn-Mulwaree, Lismore City and Brisbane City Councils, providing insights and information from the coalface of Local Government communication.

The conference is open to anyone working in Local or State Government whose role involves communications, including: public relations practitioners, event officers, customer service officers, media and information providers, strategic planners, community relations/information officers and general managers.

LGPRA thanks its sponsors including LGSA NSW, ICMI Speakers and Entertainers, ID Solutions, Media Monitors and Media Skills, whose support assists in maintaining the high content standard for which the conference is renowned, and for keeping the registration fees to a minimum.
