Free Austroads guides*

Austroads produces a number of quality guides and research reports, which assist road agencies in the planning, design, construction, maintenance and operation of their road networks. Through the Australian Local Government Association’s (ALGA) membership of Austroads, Australian Councils can not only access the publicly available technical and research reports, but also have special, free access to the entire suite of Austroads guides.

There are over 400 publications available, covering a range of topics, including asset management, bridge technology, pavement technology, project delivery, project evaluation, road design, road safety, traffic management and road transport planning.

Each Council has been allocated a unique login ID and password. To access free PDFs of Austroads guides, visit
www.austroads.com.au and follow the links to the publications website ‘member access’. If you don’t know the login details for your Council, send an email request to austroads@austroads.com.au

In addition to free downloads, Councils can register for RoadWatch alerts through the publications website. RoadWatch is an email based service that distributes customised alerts.

You can nominate to receive alerts about specific subject areas or all publications.

When new publications are released, or changes are made to existing ones, an email notification is sent to subscribers.

The Austroads Guide to Traffic Management is currently under development to replace the popular Guide to Traffic Engineering Practice (GTEP) series. The new Guide to Traffic Management will comprise 13 parts, with parts one, five six and 11 already available. Part eight, ‘Local Area Traffic Management’, is in the final stages of preparation and will be released in coming weeks. The remainder of the guide is scheduled for completion later this year.

Austroads is the association of Australian and New Zealand road transport and traffic authorities. It aims to be the Australasian leader in providing high quality information and advice, and to foster research within the road sector.
