First national
Local Government environment conference
Hosted by the Local Government Association of Queensland (LGAQ), the first National Local Government Environment Conference will focus squarely on the environmental challenges facing councils across the nation. This carbon friendly conference will be staged in Cairns from 9–11 July.
“The conference theme ‘valuing the environment’, and recent reports on the impact of climate change, have served to highlight the increasing focus on governments in understanding and managing the environment and its values both now and into the future,” said LGAQ President, Councillor Paul Bell. “Climate change, natural resource and waste management, sustainability and using land use planning to achieve positive environment outcomes are all key challenges currently facing all levels of government.
“What does this mean for Local Government in particular and what is the current status of Australian and State Government policy in these areas?
“These questions and more will be explored throughout the conference by expert presenters from all levels of government, academia, the private sector and Local Government themselves.”
LGAQ working with all Local Government Associations from across Australia has developed a conference program that aims to be informative, inspiring and enjoyable.
