Community involvement

Council’s inaugural Community Forum was held in May this year under the theme, Sustaining our Environment. The forum, initiated following the success of Council’s Living for Our Future environment program, was a ‘think tank’ opportunity for residents to voice ideas that could impact on Council policy. Councillors, a panel of environmental experts and the community discussed sustainability issues and ideas relating to climate change, biodiversity, water and waste management.

A total of 88 per cent of Council survey respondents felt that the environment and sustainability are the most important issues facing Boroondara.

The findings of the Community Forum, together with surveys, focus groups and interview data, will be used to inform Council’s decision making and policy setting on the environment.

Another significant contributor will be the Our Boroondara – Our City, Our Future draft vision strategy which was released for community consultation in June. This document, which will guide Council’s decisions in planning for the next 20 years and beyond, offers keen insights into the aspirations of the community.

Contributors, who ranged in age from eight to 96 years, came from all suburbs within Boroondara.
