Campbelltown creating a Learning Organisation

The Learning Organisation is a catchy title that encapsulates the direction Campbelltown City Council is taking to become more flexible and innovative in its approach to addressing key priorities for the community, and as a strategy to achieve Council’s vision.

The Learning Organisation is one that promotes continuous quality learning among its employees, for the benefit of the employee, Council and residents.

Building on a well established Learning and Development Program, the Learning Organisation concept supports the following key Human Resource strategies:

  • building a sustainable organisation by attracting, developing
    and retaining the best employees
  • enabling the organisation by building employee skills and
    capabilities to successfully achieve Council’s objectives
  • recognising the value of employees by offering, where
    possible, learning programs that result in the employee
    receiving a nationally accredited and transportable
    qualification.

Campbelltown City Council has already achieved inroads into this culture of learning by:

  • linking current training, wherever possible, to national
    competencies. An example is the Recruitment and
    Selection training program, which has been tailored
    not only to suit the needs of Council, but also to
    provide each participant with a nationally recognised qualification
  • introducing Certificate III and IV in Children’s Services.

Recently, expressions of interest were sought from Council staff to participate in the Certificate III in Local Government (Operational Works) and Certificate IV in Customer Contact programs.

The interest in both these training opportunities has exceeded expectations.

Campbelltown City Council intends to further develop the Learning Organisation concept by offering nationally recognised qualifications in Records Management, Library Services, Business Services and Town Planning.
