In what is considered to be a first in the golf industry, Council is constructing a turf nursery and sub surface irrigation project at its mulitple award winning Growling Frog Golf Course in Melbourne’s north.
The project aims to reduce water consumption on the site by up to 75 per cent, while the turf nursery will enable damaged areas of the putting green to be replaced. If successful it is expected to benefit golf courses throughout Australia.
Council’s Director of Infrastructure and Technology, Neill Hocking, said the facility makes golf of the highest quality accessible to the community.
“It has won numerous awards for its commitment and innovative approaches to environmental sustainability, including the International Liveable Communities Outstanding Environmental Project Award,” he said.
