Software streamlines contract management*

Last month’s edition of Local Government FOCUS ran a story on the risks councils face when they outsource work to external contractors (see ‘Engaging contractors: Do you know your council’s safety obligations? A Victorian case study’).

Insight Informatics, the award winning Australian software development team behind CivicView, has released a new software solution that makes the task of coordinating and managing external contractors more efficient.

By tracking insurance and licence details and generating automatic notifications, its solution, known as Contractors, helps to mitigate a council’s exposure to risk. It also creates a documented history of a council’s compliance of an appropriate risk management policy.

As an integrated solution, the software accelerates workflow processes, making it far simpler to match the right contractor to a particular location or scope of work or plant, equipment and so forth. The software also enables councils to create and quickly review previous performance measures on a contractor’s work, making selection and reporting easier.

New South Wales’ Mid Coast Water provides water services to the Manning Great Lakes community on the mid north coast of New South Wales.

Within the region, it supplies 11 billion litres of water a year to 35,000 households spread over a 7,000 square kilometre area.

With over 260 contractors to manage, Mid Coast Water had identified that due to its current systems, its exposure to risk was unacceptable. It identified that the ability to easily track if its contractors insurances were up to date was critical.

With the implementation of Contractors as an easy to use web browser based solution, Mid Coast Water has mitigated that risk, and has improved productivity of both its own team and the companies who contract to it.
