Come alive in Logan

The many attributes of Logan are being shared with the world through music, with the City’s new Logan song launched on 21 May.

Mayor Pam Parker said the song was developed by community members over the past year as part of the Logan Song Competition.

Located in southeast Queensland, Logan more than tripled in area and added 78,400 people to its population following amalgamations in 2008.

“The aim of the competition was to strengthen community spirit after the expansion of our great City,” Councillor Parker said. “It also aimed to create a sense of pride for our residents, and the end result is a fresh and bright song, encapsulating the vibrant spirit of Logan.”

Local musician Jules Makk was named the winner of the competition for his entry, ‘Come Alive in Logan’.

Councillor Parker said lyrics from other entrants were also considered to be valuable additions to the final song.

“We had a great response from the community, with
25 entries received,” she said. “Each provided a distinctive insight into the many benefits of Logan.

“While we could only choose one winner, we felt that it was important to acknowledge the fine efforts of the other entrants, and so additional lyrics were included from several other entries. The finished result is a unique song that is truly a collaboration of some of Logan’s most talented musicians.”

Councillor Parker said the success of the song and competition is
due to the generous support of the community and local businesses.

“Logan City is well known for the support given by businesses to the community, and this project was definitely no exception,” she said. “Local businesses contributed to the cost of running the competition and prize money, and also donated their valuable time in hosting the competition and final song launches. We also enlisted the expertise of several experienced musicians to form the judging panel and assist with achieving the final format of the song.”

The song will now be used as a marketing tool to promote the City. It will also provide a soundtrack for a variety of Logan events.
